• What’s So Great About Green Grass?

As i was a typical quixotic youth i would often hear the old  adage ?the grass is always greener on  the other side?.  It has forever been used to illustrate that even though things may look better from  an observers point of view and that this isn?t always true.  We are told that we should be happy with what we have because the other option probably isn’t as good as it seems.

bwjn26lWhen i was young i would read Goosebumps gamebooks that allow the reader to make choices in the story.  I would always mark the pages so i could go back if i didn’t like what i had chosen.  Unfortunately we cannot mark the pages of life and for making the wrong choice their will be consequences and regret for what we lost.

It is human nature to want for something more than we already possess.  This is applicable for almost everything from jobs, status and wealth to relationships and lifestyles.  For example many people have gotten ?cold feet? on their wedding day for they fear that making the commitment of marriage will close other options to them.  This disposition to the feeling that what we possess is unsatisfactory is powered by curiosity of anything that is unknown to us and the overpowering urge to improve our lives.

Pursuing something that appeals to us will usually do more harm than good.  By the time you realise that you were happy with what you had the damage done by your resultant actions could already be irreparable.  By focusing on opportunities you will never get a chance to enjoy what you already have.

Sometimes jumping the fence into greener grass will be everything you always dreamed it would be.  But because this is a somewhat improbable outcome i must offer that perhaps we should focus on ameliorating what we have rather than chasing alternatives in the hope of a quick fix.  Because in reality the grass is always greener on the other side, no matter what side you on.  So stop looking at your neighbours grass and start watering your own!

As for me, iv acknowledged my addiction to the pursuit of the greenest of grasses and the inherent consequences, there will be no rehab for me anytime soon.

It is a known fact, yes i said fact, that all religions are based on fiction and are powered purely by faith.  So my question is, why are all the followers of various religions so incorrigible and will become invariably perturbed when offered an alternative?   A simple reason that many choose theology is that religion can always give an answer for the inexplicable. God created everything and he is awesomefamily_guy_creationists1 and that’s that, is far easier  to comprehend than the infinite complexity that is the theory of evolution.  There is also the innate fear of the inevitability of death, that all human beings possess on various levels.  However i believe that the real appeal of religion is that it can give purpose and direction to all who is willing to submit to unquestioning faith.

Who wouldn’t want to have a special place in gods divine plan and the safety net of heaven to wash away the fear of death as long as you are a good boy/girl ?  Heard the saying ?if its too good to be true, it probably is??

Theology is often referred to as a crutch for the psychologically weak.  This is further attested by the large number of people in western civilisation finding their faith in their darkest moments.  I call these believers weak minded because instead of relying on their inner strength and will power to overcome the hurdles of life, they use strength borrowed from a self perpetuated delusion.  Should these delusions ever be undeniably proven false and taken from them, everything that they had achieved would be undone.  I find using self deception rather than developing your will power to be pathetic.

The perfect example of this betrayal of individual will is the ?Twelve Steps Of Alcoholics Anonymous?.  This guide directly states that you must believe that only god has the power to repair you and that you are powerless.  You are told to develop a connection with god in hope of a miraculous cure rather than shttp://oneyearbibleimages.com/gods_strength2.jpgearching within yourself to find real purpose to defeat your addiction.  As a side note SOS is a self empowerment method of overcoming addictions and i believe it to be a far better approach to solving the problem.

Upon being ?reborn? a person will cling to the bible and distort its words to explain anything they need it to as it is impossible for them to acknowledge any other possibilities.  Because in doing this they would be admitting to themselves that the basis of their lives could be false and their subconscious must prevent this in order to preserve mental health.

?It is all a part of the big illusion we perpetuate upon ourselves and which is in turn perpetuated upon us. When we believe we engage the illusion, when we stop believing we shatter the illusion and ourselves in the process because we are part of it." ? Dogbert

That said, i must admit that theology is still necessary for society.  There are still too people that are not ready to deal with the challenges of life on their own.  When this is possible all religions will fade into obscurity and rational thought will reign supreme.

PS. I am thankful for the strong morals provided by most faiths, this does greatly benefit society.

  • Hey Hey It’s Racism

Like the generally unpatriotic person i am, i was not one of the 1.8 million viewers watching the 2nd hey hey its saturday reunion show last night.  Unfortunately my preoccupation also meant i missed Harry Connick Jr’s apparently distressed response to the ‘Jackson Jive’ performance.  I didn’t escape it for long, with the constant debate on degrees of racism and political correctness re-established in my mind. Forced into this thought process, i soon developed my own opinion which was quite different to the one harry connick expressed during his time as celebrity guest on the show.

But before i get to that let me just state a few things iv come to view as important to this situation.  The first thing to keep in mind about this is that the Jackson Jive members have various cultural backgrounds between them.  The other thing overlooked is that this is the same group, invited back to perform the same Jackson Five tribute show they done 20 years earlier.  Hence the use of the word reunion.

Now anyone with a partially operational cerebrum will reply, ‘things have changed in the past 20 years’.  But the question is, have they changed for the better ?  Now understand that when i say this i am not referring to the progression of racial equality but rather to the way in which we, as a society, deals with it.

My point being that extreme sensitivity can be counter productive to the cause.  Though homosapiens have lived in civilizations for thousands of years, only in the last 100 years has racism become unacceptable and with this relatively fast change i believe humanity is still struggling to find a balance on what racism actually is..

Because of this and we are forced to stringently avoid an behaviour that might be viewed as slander against another race.  So whats wrong with this? The problem is that the problem is not being solved, its being avoided.  Being unprejudiced with what you say is different thing to being afraid to say it for fear of being labeled racist.  Laughter is the universal language and if we cant approach this issue with good hearted comedy and humility, what hope do we have?

Two reasons why Mr Connick Jr. fails at his self appointed role of caped crusader for anti-racism.  The first being that the black face paint was necessary for the act, without the painted face it would just have been 6 guys performing a poor rendition of a michael jackson song.  The second and more important being that many black comedians have made use of white face paint in the past, involving skits that DID promote various racial stereotypes and guess what ? It was funny too. Im truly sick of this counter progressive, hypocritical double standard bullshit.  As a society we have sired this contemptible situation through a misguided effort at attaining racial equality, we have come along way but it sure as hell isnt equality.
